Generator

Onan

The Onan generator was chosen specifically for this Classic MH. It served well for many years but was begining to show it's age and parts were getting harder to find as time went by. (It certainly paid to keep a list of cross-overs.)

Our Onan had been resurrected so many times it had become known as "Lazarus".  Tune-up projects were an on-going event: IE, trying to get Lazarus to run first of all, and then more smoothly (quietly?).

This time it was the starter solenoid that had to be replaced and once more the Onan had to be removed from it's cubby-hole.

This is where Lazarus lived...in all its oily glory!

It took some elbow grease to get this drawer clean...

And here is Lazarus...out again for repairs.

Repairs done, in it goes... till the next time.

Honda

Lazarus eventually got replaced in 2000 at age 24, after failing one too many time. Once the control board fried, it was time to put the poor thing out of its misery and replace it with a newer technology. For the 23' coach, which has a smaller generator opening than that of the 26' coach, there were very few options at that time for a replacement generator that would fit. One is the EVHonda 4010

For this conversion, we sent the coach to Cooperative Motors, Orlando, Fla.

One more addjustment was made after driving the coach for a while. Because of the tight fit in the opening, air flow over the genset radiator was minimal and the heat build up in that small genset compartment was considerable on a hot day.
But creating a few more vents in the genset door took care of that problem. A little artistry with a router helped...!
