GMC 1976
23' Classic Motorhome

Engine

The original 455 engine had some 113k miles on the speedometer when purchased in 1988....and not much pep. Eventually it was removed from the coach that same year and sent to a local machine repair shop (USA Racing Engines) for a complete inspection and overhaul.
Sure looked pretty when it came back...and ran like a top!

Hubs and Rotors

Any owner of the GMC Classic already knows that this part of the coach gets a lot of attention...as it should. Original equipment bearings should be greased at least every 20k to 30k miles and hubs and bearings must be dissembled each time to do so.

The average auto/RV repair shop does not have the proper equipment nor the expertise to do the job properly.

frthub

One of the most critical elements of the Classic are the front wheel hubs, bearings and knuckles.

Special tools are needed to remove and install these bearings.

front rotor

Fortunately there is a large GMC Classic community where these tools can be found and there do exist some speciailized repair shops that work on the Classic GMC.

Of course once one starts replacing / repairing / cleaning, it's hard to stop: hubs, rotors, brakes, knuckles, joints, shocks, bushings, etc, etc.

Trivia:
Strictly speaking, this coach does not have any traditional "axles".

But try to explain to the toll attendent that you should not be charged for 3 axles.  It makes for an interesting conversation, but keep your money handy...^_^
